How Greta Thunberg Brought Climate Back To Perspective In Davos

Greta Thunberg is one of the rare young people who can see through Donald Trump’s sugar-coated word game. The US President continues to fool the social media with his word games. This time, he has dropped 95 environmental protection reforms that had been put forth by Barrack Obama and had helped control and curb a lot of environmental damage.

While speaking at the recent World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland, Thunberg brushed aside sarcastic remarks made by both Trump and later then by U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. Trump called Thunberg’s reactions childish and unnecessary and Mnuchin asks whether she has a degree in economics to even talk about world economics right now.

To this, Greta was very focused and serious and said that she didn’t need an economics degree to understand the destruction that was being meted on the environment. Bringing things back to perspective, Thunberg says, “What will you tell your children about the future of the world?”

She even rubbished Trump’s assertions of joining the one trillion tree initiative. She was correct in retorting that fixing the climate crisis was not only about trees. Speaking for the future of the world, she is correct in saying that it really did not take a degree to know the world was not meeting its climate targets.

Speaking out her mind for the sake of the future she addressed a packed audience of world leaders and declared, “… either you tell us how to achieve this mitigation or explain to future generations and those already affected by the climate emergency why we should abandon our climate commitments.”

The Trump administration has been snooty over admitting that climatic preservation is the world’s responsibility. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has spoken in favor and said that attaining the goals of the Paris climate accord, which the United States has quit, was vital.
