On Sunday Iran tried to drive a conciliatory wedge between the US and the UK in the midst of heightening tension after Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces held onto a British-flagged tanker in the Gulf and constrained it into an Iranian port.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif blamed US National Security Adviser John Bolton of attempting to enlist British for supporting the US battle against Iran. “Having neglected to bait Donald Trump into the War of the Century, he is turning his venom against the UK to drag it into an entanglement,” Zarif said.

Adel Al-Jubeir, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs stated that any assault on the freedom of the route was an infringement of international law. “Iran must understand that its demonstrations of seizing boats, including most lately the British ship, is extremely inappropriate. The world community must take steps to prevent such conduct,” he said.

The British minister stated that they were thinking about their choices because of the seizure on Friday of the tanker Stena Impero with 23 crew members on board.

Tehran released a video of a portion of the 23-member crew of the Stena Impero lounging around a table talking with one of the Iranian officials.

Video film and a photograph seem to show planning dinners and team individuals being advised by an Iranian authority on the Stena Impero.

Mohammad Zarif, the foreign minister, said on Monday that Iran took steps against the ship to “enforce international law,” not in revenge to actions by Britain, and was not looking for strife.

English Prime Minister Theresa May will seat a crisis security meeting to examine how to react to Iran’s seizure of a British-flagged tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

The meeting of security officials and authorities on Monday will examine how to secure ships in the sensitive areas, which is essential to the world’s oil supply.

Jeremy Hunt, Foreign Secretary, is supposed to brief Parliament on the Friday seizing of the Stena Impero oil tanker, presently in a vigorously protected Iranian port.
