Italian League probed over Russia oil deal allegations

Published

on

The Italian prosecutors are investigating over an alleged Russian oil deal to fund the far-right League party in Italy and Buzzfeed News published an audio recording of an alleged meeting in Moscow in 2018 between three Russians and and Gianluca Saovini, former Salvini’s associate, over a deal which would funnel Russian oil money into the far right nationalist party League.

Saovini denies that the meeting took place and that he was in Moscow to meet some entrepeneurs, however, the League party has always backed Russia in its campaign.

Salvini as well has dismissed the allegations:’never taken a ruble or a litre of vodka from Russia’.

Vladimir Putin said that his colleagues where in ‘constant contact’ with the League members when in Rome.

The Democratic Party has demanded a parliamentary inquiry on the matter.
