As an obvious outcome, the ongoing campaign activities by Democratic senators will be put on hold, till the time they are participating in the impeachment trial.

Most of them will be using surrogates and televisions ads to reach out to last-minute undecided voters. Scene is bustling with energy and enthusiasm before the Iowa caucuses approach in three weeks.

Jurors include front running candidates. Indeed this is not a good time for four senators who are seeking the Democratic nomination. This includes Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren who will be in Washington soon. They will, along with the others, deliberate on whether to remove Mr. Trump from office.

Apart from surrogates, Sanders would have to rely on a trio of freshman lawmakers—Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. Currently, they are regarded as rising stars within the liberal wing of the Democratic Party.  Their presence should keep the momentum going.

Because Sanders has been well known Iowa, his aides believe it will not be too difficult to keep the magic on.  They owe it to his 2016 White House bid and a robust operation in the state.

Elizabeth Warren is going to dispatch all three of her campaign co-chairwomen—Reps. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts; Katie Porter of California, who is an Iowa native; and Deb Haaland of New Mexico—to Iowa over the coming weeks.

As far as Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota goes, she plans to hold the tele-town halls while she is in Washington. She will also make use of surrogates to Iowa, including Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz; Ms. Klobuchar’s husband, John Bessler; and her daughter, Abigail Klobuchar Bessler, a campaign aide has confirmed to the media.

If the trail asks for witnesses, there is a possibility the trial might be stretch into length. In that case, the Republican sources feel Trump might not be able to make his State of the Union address slated for February 04, 2020.
