Leaked documents on UK-US free trade talks

Written by On Jul 11, 2019

UK’s Telegraph reports that US and UK are trying to secure a free trade deal but there is just a little progress given the different approaches the two countries have on food standards, finance and health.

This comes after the resignation of Kim Darroch, UK ambassador in the US, for the leaked memoes where he called Trump as ‘inept’.

The relations between the two countries worsened to the point that the talks between Liam Fox, British International Trade Secretary and Us Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross were cancelled as a leaked message shows that Fox’s visit to the US coul appear ‘a bit of a desperate bid’.

A Uk cabinet minister said that a deal ‘will never happen’ because the United States wants access for the farming industry.

The UK is set to leave the EU on October 31st.
