Qatar Paid Billion Dollar Ransom to Terrorists

Back in December 2015, the ruling family of Qatar received some extremely bad news. Members of a royal hunting party, which included members of the ruling family, had been kidnapped. This kidnapping took place in Iraq. Those members would remain in captivity for the next 16 months.

During that time, extensive negotiations would take place between certain members of the Qatari ruling family and the mediators and terrorists. However, the exact details of the negotiation and subsequent ransom are still shrouded in mystery.

According one version of the events, Qatar ended up paying over a billion dollars as ransom. More importantly, the money was given to individuals and groups that have been labeled as terrorists. The group whose name came up most often in this version is Hezbollah, the Iranian funded militant group infamous for killing American soldiers. Other groups that were involved include General Qasem Soleimani who is the leader of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and also al-Nusra.

However, there is another version of the events which Qatar has been stating. In that version, Qatar did not pay any money to terrorists. Instead the money was given to the state of Iraq which supposedly stored the money in the vault of the Central Bank of Iraq. This is quite surprising since the hostages were set free. As such, this version of the events is quite unbelievable.

There is another reason not to believe what Qatar has been saying. That reason is the leaks of messages between two members of Qatari ruling family who were entrusted with handling the crisis.

Those messages clearly show terrorists were involved in the kidnapping plot. It also becomes evident that everyone involved in the negotiations with the terrorists were trying to line their pockets at the expense of Qatar. As a result, Qatar ended up paying a lot more and most of the money ended up in the hands of militants, extremists and terrorists.
