Taiwan independence – China warns of war

China is ready for war in case Taiwan moves toward its independence and accused the US of undermining the stability selling arms to the island, said China’s foreign ministry.

China wants to impose sanction on the US as the US State Department approved sales of weapons to Taiwan wort $2.2 billion.

However, defense ministry spokesman Wu Qian said that China would make effort for a peaceful reunification.

“However, we must firmly point out that seeking Taiwan independence is a dead end,”  he said.

China considers Taiwan as a wayward province abd has often used the military to enforce the island under its control.

While the US has no formal ties with the island, China claims that ‘the United States provoked intensified competition among major countries, significantly increased its defense expenditure … and undermined global strategic stability’.

China defense spending is lower than other major countries and there are reports of a secret pact with the Cambodian government that would grant China’s military forces exclusive access to part of sensible military naval bases in the southeast Asia.
